Family Resources

The current events from our nation’s capital was a shock for families, staff, and students.  As educators, we want to provide students with a safe and supportive environment to engage in discussions about these events.  The information we hear and see on the news can be confusing and disturbing for all.  We recognize that families may be at a loss for how to discuss these events with their child(ren).  It is encouraged that families provide a space for dialogue.  Here are a couple of resources that may be helpful in having these difficult conversations:

Reopening Dashboard

SRVUSD have updated the Reopening Dashboard on our district website to reflect the additional work that has been done. You can also check out the COVID Tracking Dashboard.  This COVID Dashboard will allow you to monitor, in a very transparent manner, COVID-19 activity in the SRVUSD.

Prism Club (For Interested Grade 4 and 5 Students Only)

We are starting a Prism Club at Rancho Romero for 4th and 5th grade students. This student run club provides a safe and supportive place for LGBTQ+ students and allies to create a community. At the elementary school level, this club can touch on topics of family, identity, and respect. They can be a space for LGBTQ+ families, students, and allies to connect and hold space for each other. The Prism Club promotes a safe, healthy school climate and an anti-bullying message. The structure for the club meetings will look like this: 1) play a game as a group just to have fun and socialize, 2) read a book or watch a video clip, and 3) have a student lead discussion. Before we wrap up, club members will have an opportunity to give input as to what we will do at the next meeting.

The Prism Club will be meeting bi-weekly on Mondays from 11:15 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and will be facilitated by  Ms. Harrington and other staff members. Please contact the office or for more information.

The meetings this year will be held remotely. Our first meeting will be held on Monday, February 1st.  We look forward to your child joining the Prism Club!  In order for your child to participate, your permission is needed.  Please fill out the Prism Club Interest Form ( by Friday, January 29th.  We will send you a permission slip to collect parent signatures through AdobeSign.

Spelling Bee Program (For Interested Grade 4 and 5 Students Only)

This year, the Scripps National Spelling Bee has developed an online testing platform that will allow Rancho Romero Elementary School to host a school spelling bee program, whether your children are learning in classrooms or remotely from your homes.

In place of our traditional spelling bee program, we will hold one level of competition through online spelling tests. The first step to spelling bee participation is for you to register for the Scripps National Spelling Bee's online testing platform by visiting

We encourage you to watch this video tutorial that will walk you through the registration process:

Once you have registered, we will be able to assign the appropriate grade-level test to your child. Your child must complete the test before the given deadline, and these tests can be taken on any device with a web browser, including desktop computers, laptops, tablets and smart phones.

The students from each grade with the highest scores will move on to compete at the school level. This year, our school-level competition will be administered via online test.

Our school champion will then move on to represent Rancho Romero in the Bay Area regional spelling bee program, which also may include online tests in lieu of in-person spelling bee events.

The first step to spelling bee participation is to register at online-test.spelling Please register by Monday, January 18th as we will begin assigning tests to students soon. If you have already registered in the online testing platform for another child, you can log in to your account and add an additional child to that same parent account. There is no need to register a different email address for each child in your household.

The Online Spelling Bee will be timed.  Students are allotted 30 minutes to complete 25 words.  All students participating will take the Scripps National Spelling Bee Integrity Pledge.

Integrity \ in-ˈte-grə-tē \

firm adherence to a code of especially moral or artistic values : INCORRUPTIBILITY

Pledge \ ˈplej \

a binding promise or agreement to do or forbear

I am honest to myself.

I am fair to my classmates and teachers.

On my honor, I will neither give nor receive any help on this online test.

Please reach out to Dr. Nguyen at if you have any questions about our school spelling bee program. We look forward to having your child compete to represent our school!
