What We Do

HOSPITALITY

Making all Rancho community members feel welcomed, appreciated, and informed is an important part of our work. We host social events like coffees, morning walks, evening mixers, potluck luncheons, and park play dates to connect one another. Each August we host a Staff Lunch, and we lead the Teacher/Staff Appreciation efforts each spring as well as the send off of our 5th graders to middle school at the 5th Grade Graduation.

New kinder families are welcomed in cooperation with the school on Kindergarten Welcome Day and Kindergarten Info Night in the spring, and buddy families are connected in grades 1-5. If you are new to Rancho this year and want to be on the distribution list for play dates and other helpful information, please contact:

RANCHO OUTREACH

Rancho reaches out to the local community in many ways. Many of those efforts are lead by the Student Council, and others are lead through our PTA.

The Sister School philanthropic program is a district-wide PTA-sponsored program benefitting the students of the San Ramon Valley Unified School District (SRVUSD) by fostering civic responsibility, enhancing community engagement, promoting volunteerism, and by teaching the joy of helping others in need. Rancho partners with Coronado Elementary School in Richmond, CA with student and parent volunteers interested in participating in our philanthropic activities to support Coronado. The time commitment is low but the reward is high.

Rancho also partners with Pledge To Humanity which empowers children and young adults to volunteer in efforts that improve the quality of life for other children, families and seniors in need through local and global initiatives. Several volunteer opportunities will occur throughout the year. Contact Wendy Higgins for more details at whiggins49@gmail.com.

WAYS & MEANS

Rancho PTA raises money to support our local, state, and national events and initiatives for the year. We only fundraise as much as we need to, as our budget is approximately $30K each year. Our volunteers work to help ensure we have adequate funds being spent properly in order to maintain our PTA charter and enchance our school community.

We raise money through PTA Family Memberships purchased during online registration, and we cultivate student leadership in cooperation with the school, RREF, and SSC through the APEX Fun Run fundraiser. Our Run Club and Yearbook sales bring in funds for us to host our free, Rancho-PTA sponsored events throughout the year. The Box Tops families collect and submit and the restaurants that give us a portion of the proceeds during our Eat Our for School days and nights round out our budget for our exciting events and initiatives.

INCLUSION & DIVERSITY COMMITTEE

The mission of the Inclusion & Diversity Committee ("IDC") at Rancho is to help all community members to inclusively care and be culturally aware. Each Rancho student and family brings a host of life experiences and dispositions that enhance our school community, and we want continue to explore how might we learn about, celebrate, and encourage all that enriches our children's school experiences. Our committee meets on a drop-in basis each month to support the character education, anti-bullying, ability awareness, and culturally responsive teaching and learning initiatives in place at Rancho and throughout the district. We provide parent education for families regarding race, culture, ethnicity, gender, and special needs. We support the school's efforts in providing diverse books for our children in the library and individual classrooms, and we are seeking to work with the Anti-Defamation League to be a "No Place for Hate" school in the coming years. Our two largest events are the district's "Words Matter Week" in the winter and our International Festival in the spring.

If you want to get involved with the IDC, please contact Sandra Willman - svargas430@gmail.com or Farashta Zainal - farashta.zainal@gmail.com. Join our Facebook group that operates independent of PTA, the school, and the district at https://www.facebook.com/groups/1955763377982089/

IMAGINE A WORLD WITHOUT HATE

HEALTH & WELLNESS

Ensuring Rancho is a healthy and safe place to be is a priority. Whether it's nutrition, the environment, or healthy living, there's a lot to be learned and our parent volunteers are ready to pitch in!

In 2016-17 our parents lead the charge at countless meetings in the local community to ensure the crosswalk on Hemme would be safe for children crossing. A new initiative for Rancho younger grades is "Harvest of the Month" where family volunteers teach students about healthy foods by making and sharing yummy recipes! Each fall, we support the district's initiative of "Red Ribbon Week" teaching children about being healthy and safe, too.

SCHOOL SUPPORT

Our volunteers support school events each year including the Book Fair which raises money for the Library, the Run For Education which is a district initiative, eyesight and hearing testing, school pictures, assemblies, and more.

The most important way our volunteers support our school is during Lunch/Recess, helping our children stay safe and play fair. If you would like to sign up to donate a single day or a recurring contribution of your time to help out at "yard duty", please contact Claudia Tyler at claudia_tyler@yahoo.com.
