Room 23 News
Happy first day of spring!
We had lots of St. Patrick's Day fun last week! None of us caught the tricky leprechauns, but we enjoyed building traps with our buddies and using our leprechaun finders to search for them all over the school!
We used last week to get in some extra practice making 10 in math. We are moving into Topic 5 of our math program which will focus on numbers from 11-20.
Star Word Practice: As a kindergarten team, we are changing the way we practice and learn star words. Star words are high frequency, or sight words, that primarily cannot be sounded out. Today, each student came home with a packet of star words to practice. Each Monday, students will bring home a list of words to work on. Each Friday, students will read their list to me, and be given a new list to work on. If your student came home with more than one list today, I highlighted words he/she needed to work on. Students should be continually practicing all of the lists they are or have been working on.
If you would like more reading activities to try with your student at home, please let me know. I have several fun reading fluency practice games that I can send home.
Be sure to mark your calendars for Tuesday, May 23! We will be presenting our class play, "The Little Red Hen" at 10:30 a.m. The play will be held in our classroom with a reception following!
Spring Break is April 3-7
